Located approximately 26km south of the sydney CBD the sutherland shire has a rich australian cultural history with Captain james cook first sailing into botany bay and landing on the kurnell peninsula, the birthplace of modern australia on 29th april 1770. Geographically the area is located to the south of botany bay and also the georges river and is known by the locals as “the shire”.
